All of the NSCF Committee members and volunteers awoke bright and early on the morning of Saturday the 11th of July 2009 to gloom and drizzle, spirits were low as we prepared for our 4th festival. One by one the community groups and attractions arrived and faced the terrible un-seasonal weather, no-one cancelled, everyone was prepared to carry on regardless, such is the spirit and dedication of the tireless members, volunteers and organisations that plan and organise this unique event. Then the sun burst through and the community started to arrive, what followed was amazing we had hours of glorious weather some of us even got sun burned (me) with a few showers mixed in but who cares when your having fun.Our local fire brigade Bickenhill Green Watch put on a fantastic display including 3 Fire Engines, a live car crash extraction demo and a Smokie Joe display unit, everyone was amazed by it all. We had some extra attractions this year including a rock climbing wall supplied by The Warehouse, mini Ferris wheel, merry go round, parachute ride supplied by Paul Gooch of Fair Amusement Hire and the steam train supplied by the Birmingham Society of Model Engineers, all the children and adults loved them all, We even had a circus skills area supplied by Jay Linn.Leicester Pro Wrestling put on their show which is always very popular with everyone and of course we had the inflatables supplied by Kidzdobounce, local community groups, charity stalls, attractions and hours of live music on the Stagebus. We also had for our "Moon Theme" this year wooden cut-outs of a rocket, spacemen ,aliens and a fantastic Moon game all made and supplied by our local learning disability training school Waterloo Woodwork with the aid of Paddy and Simon and painted by our local artist Ronnie Cashmore.
I would personally like to thank all the people that made this event the best festival so far,and without their efforts an event like this would simply not happen.
(This event is all non-profit and relies on grants, volunteers and donations)
